WW2 had some amazing Navy tattoo’s. In some ways, they can be completely poetic especially given the setting they were created in and the cause. Today, I see flags on shoulders, sometimes Harley logos on moms dropping off their kids at school. I see nationalistic tatts but nothing on this scale have I ever seen. I wonder if folks out there have the mettle to get it done right. A full on body tatted up of what is believed. Not just of what they like or think is cool. What they stand for. Good for these guys.

Isn’t it? There’s some amazing history of Navy tattoos from way before then. Here’s one from 1921!

having no tattoos is todays anti social.
Also I love the artist is in a bow tie.
Also this. I realize all these guys were sailors and actual men but when women do it and todays skinny wimps who want to be part of a scene its pathetic.
“Your sailor tattoos tell people that at some point, you were into the rockabilly scene, which is not an actual genre of music, but an excuse for people to dress like extras from the movie Grease for no discernable reason. You dudes got $90 haircuts and you ladies spent obscene amounts of time searching thrift stores for the perfect retro bathing suits but then refused to go in the water.”

There are still people around who would do this but getting tattoos like these cost some serious money/time, especially if you want to get them done right by someone who is competent. I think also the fact of the very possibility of death kinda inspired them to go big or go home. It was a world war and if I was in their shoes I would do the same thing. If I am going to go down I am going to do so looking good.
